Songs for While I'm Away plot
Phil Lynott was born in 1949 in West Bromwich, England to an Irish mother and a black father from British Guiana. However, he grew up in Dublin, Ireland with his grandparents. He was the lead singer of several bands, including Skid Row, which also featured Gary Moore. Until he learned to play the bass guitar and founded Thin Lizzy in 1969, in which he was the lead singer and bassist. With Thin Lizzy he achieved great success and they had hits such as 'Whiskey in the Jar', 'The Boys Are Back in Town' and 'Jailbreak'. Towards the end of the 1970s, Lynott embarked on a solo career, which brought him the hit "Old Town" among others. Already during and especially after Thin Lizzy, Lynott increasingly had to deal with drug-related problems, especially a heroin addiction. Finally, Lynott passed away on January 4, 1986 at the age of 36. This is the story of how a young black boy from working-class Dublin in the 1950s became one of Ireland's biggest rockers. Phil Lynott was a songwriter, poet, dreamer and wild man.
