Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea plot

On January 13, 2012, more than 4,000 people departed aboard the luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia from Civitavecchia, Italy, for a grand adventure on the high seas. That same night, however, the ship deviated from its course. The captain of the Concordia, Francesco Schettino, had decided to treat a crew member to a 'sail-by salute' past the Tuscan island of Giglio, where the crew member's family lived. But the spontaneous detour that evening turned into a nightmare when miscommunication on the bridge led to the luxury ship running aground on a rocky reef off the coast of the island.

A good dramatic documentary, although some facts were not told It was, of course, a combination of an arrogant captain, an order that was misunderstood due to a language barrier, and a technical malfunction.
But I didn't hear the most important reason, and they didn't elaborate on it either. The captain was going to do something that was common at the time, namely a maritime salute, which was actually not allowed. That involves sailing much too close to land to give the passengers a nice view in the evening.
And another problem that was, and still is, is that no one dares to contradict the captain, because you don't contradict the boss. Even though many other crew members knew that this was very dangerous....

The Costa Concordia, a cruise ship with 4,000 passengers on board, ran aground on a rock near the Italian port town of Civitavecchia on January 13, 2012. In the ensuing chaos, 32 people lost their lives. Captain Francesco Schettino was sentenced to 15 years in prison three years later. Passengers and employees share their experiences during this maritime disaster, which undoubtedly bears similarities to the Titanic disaster. Supplemented with authentic footage shot by passengers and an audio transcript of the communication between the captain and the crew, this is an excellent reconstruction. The only drawback is the absence of people directly involved in steering the ship.
