Seinen no Umi plot
In 1966, the Ministry of Education in Japan proposes to overhaul the non-mandatory absenteeism system in universities. This documentary captures the struggle of 4 students leading the opposition against this overhaul. During their struggle, the students are forced to ask themselves a number of things about their lifestyle. Is working while you study, as they have done so far, really that great? Why should they study so hard after working hard? Ogawa's camera embraces the boys, sharing their confusion, worry, fear and determination not to give up the fight.
