The title sets the tone: how could the title character become the notorious despot he is now passed as? The political portrait of Robert Mugabe is made up of archive footage and interviews with eyewitnesses and experts, supported by a voiceover. The documentary shows how Mugabe, who was initially regarded as a Western-oriented 'sophisticated gentleman', gradually changed into a violent and unscrupulous lust for power.
