"A global odyssey for peace"
Filmed in a dozen countries without official support, this work of more than 14 hours is made up of discussions with ordinary families about the atomic bomb, dramatic scenes played by non-professional actors and unrelenting media criticism. Watkins speaks with witnesses of Hiroshima and Allied bombing in Germany. He speaks with Algerians who are subject to prejudice in France, women in Mozambique who struggle to maintain their communities despite war and poverty, and also Polynesians who live near the site of nuclear testing. In Australia and Norway, he performs speculative improvisations with non-actors, demonstrating the absurdity and inadequacy of government guidelines for dealing with post-nuclear situations.
