Ours Is the Labour plot
In the 1960s and 1970s, the rusk factory Hooijmeijer in Barendrecht was doing so well that it was difficult to find enough employees who were willing to perform the heavy physical labour. This is how the first guest workers from Morocco were recruited in those years. Strong, young men who worked long hours to earn money to give their children a better future. They were welcomed with open arms, there was little talk at the time about integration and civic integration. Filmmaker Jeroen van Bergeijk, son of the then director, recorded their story.
