No Land's Song plot
Since the Islamic revolution of 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini established a repressive, anti-Western regime in Iran and women have to endure a wide range of restrictive laws. For example, they owe their husbands absolute obedience and are not allowed to sing in public for men as a soloist. The young composer Sara Najafi wants to break with the ban on singing and she decides to organize a small concert with singers. She also invites three French musicians: Elise Caron, Jeanne Cherhal and Emel Mathlouthi. With this she hopes to build a cultural bridge to Europe. Director Ayat Najafi made his film to gain a little more freedom for Iranian women in his own way.
