Monk Politics plot

In mainly Buddhist Myanmar, the more than half a million monks and nuns are an important religious, social and political factor. During the military dictatorship, monks sometimes took to the streets against the regime. After the start of the democratization process in the country, it was precisely the nationalist monks who were responsible for a wave of violence against Muslims. With the party of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi running the country, the monks are rethinking their position.
