Mama Calle plot
Mama Calle tells about the lives of street children who grow up in the largest city in the world, Mexico City. Surviving in the city is difficult for them. The 'Bald' and the 'Negro' are inseparable friends. They are 9 and 14 years old, the roof of the metro station has become their home. The 'Kale', like so many other Latin American children, also works on the street, among the eternal stream of cars. He is a fire breather, other children are clowns or wash car windows. The children look with a dull old man's gaze. There is a harsh, cynical expression in their eyes. Director Arjanne Laan followed them to their dens and hiding places. She spent nights with them in the cold concrete buildings where they sleep. She saw the reality of their lives: hunger and boredom, lack of warmth and a home. And also their flight into the shadow life of the glue sniffing. But above all she saw their courage and strength, and the often childlike way in which they live their lives.
