Like an Animal plot
Like an Animal is about the Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas (1977). She makes portraits of animals: horses, tigers, dogs, wolves and other animals. Animals that play a role in our cultivated world, where people project all kinds of expectations and feelings onto the animal. In the documentary, Walter Stokman portrays Charlotte Dumas while traveling, at home and in the gallery where her work is exhibited. As in a travelogue, we see Charlotte photographing pit bulls at an animal shelter in Brooklyn, New York and travel with her when she photographs the animals of a traveling circus. Through the conversations Charlotte has in the film, the questions and motives underlying her work slowly unfold.
