Jokinen plot
In 1931, the so-called Yokinen Trial was organized by the United States Communist Party in Harlem, New York. It brought Finnish immigrant August Jokinen into the public eye. Jokinen, a janitor at Finland's Worker's Club, was accused of failing to defend three African-American communists who were assaulted at one of the club's dances. After accepting the blame, Jokinen became an outspoken champion of civil rights until he was arrested for his Communist Party membership and then deported to Finland. Laura Horelli tells Jokinen's story of his migration as a mix between historical research, detective and art.
