Jeanne plot
Jeanne is fifteen when she ends up in a psychosis and has to be admitted to a psychiatric clinic. She learns that she has a manic-depressive disorder and is prescribed medication. The mood swings manifest themselves in months of depression, or in periods of being hyper, busy and overly cheerful. In order not to have to feel her psychological pain, Jeanne regularly cuts herself in her arms. In the end there is only one solution: taking lithium. And that's the last thing Jeanne wants, because she hates the side effects, such as weight gain and chronic fatigue. Finally she decides to take the medicine. Will it make her life bearable? Filmmakers Walther Grotenhuis and Cinta Forger follow Jeanne for two years, and show in a penetrating way how difficult the life is of a patient with a manic-depressive disorder.
