In 1967 it was unthinkable that an unmarried 17-year-old girl could raise a child. The family was the proverbial cornerstone of society, and anything that could undermine that indisputable certainty had to be silenced, or silenced. When the now 47-year-old writer Will van Sebille had a child thirty years ago, there was only one solution: to give up and not think about it anymore. Research has recently shown that she was not alone: more than 25,000 women were forced to give up an illegitimate child in the 1960s and 1970s.
