From his early years with left-wing theater groups in the 1930s to his time as a lecturer in the 1970s, we see interviews with Nicholas Ray's associates and admirers, along with excerpts from some of his most famous films. Made after Ray left the commercial film industry and accepted a teaching position at the State University of New York at Binghamton.
