I Am the Violin plot
For Ida Haendel, the violin is all-encompassing. Although she has become less famous than her contemporaries Isaac Stern and Yehudi Menuhin, her playing was on a par. She was three when, in 1920s Poland, she picked up her older sister's violin and, by her own admission, was able to play it right away. Child prodigy Ida reached the top and made her father's dream come true. But now, after a lifetime of playing the violin, it's hard to accept that it's not what it used to be. When a bad tone comes out of her Stradivarius, she tells the repairman that her audience might mistakenly think it's her age.
