Jan Wolff is the initiator, director and artistic director of the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam. A few days after his sixtieth birthday, while the construction of the Muziekgebouw is in full swing, Jan Wolff learns that he has kidney cancer. After two operations, he has to go on dialysis three times a week and this often makes him tired and nauseous. But he is not the man to let his illness get in the way of his dream, because the construction of the Muziekgebouw continues: "You do it right or you don't" remains Jan Wolff's motto. The filmmaker followed Jan Wolff for months up to and including the opening. He also expects the enthusiasm and dedication that he has from others. From the design and furnishing to the personnel policy, Jan Wolff is in charge from start to finish.
