De Brand van Leuven plot
At the end of August 1914, Leuven fell victim to a blind war frenzy. Just about the entire center of the city was systematically destroyed by the German occupier. More than 1,000 buildings went up in flames, including the centuries-old university library and numerous valuable publications it housed, and more than 200 innocent civilians were killed. In “De Brand van Leuven” war journalist Rudi Vranckx tells what exactly happened, how it could have come to this and what the motives were for this terrible crime, which also stirred international emotions.
