In 1960, Cuban photographer Alberto “Korda” Diaz captured a photograph of Marxist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Che quickly became a legend and - with the student uprisings in Paris and Berkeley in 1968 - this photo became the pre-eminent symbol of left-wing protest and revolution. The ideals of the seventies were gone and capitalism was introduced. But even today, the photo is typical of the zeitgeist: as the world's most reproduced image, it symbolizes the dizzying visual culture in which we live. On T-shirts, bags, buttons, banners, but also incorporated into pastries and expensive perfume bottles: everyone knows Diaz's photo and everyone uses it for a different ideal. How come and why this particular photo? In Chevolution, directors Luis Lopez and Trisha Ziff not only dispel many a myth about the figure of Che Guevara, but also explore the many meanings of the legendary photograph.
