Bruxelles-Kigali plot
In the court in Brussels, lawyers, witnesses and survivors of the Rwandan genocide prepare for the trial against the absent Ephrem Nkezabera. He was a banker and leader of the extremist Hutu militias that carried out a mass massacre of Tutsis and moderate Hutus in 1994. In both Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, and Brussels, survivors of the massacres often come face to face with the alleged murderers of their family and friends. Rwandans who want to testify in court are often threatened by their compatriots and are therefore afraid to speak openly about what has been done to them. Due to his physical condition, Ephrem Nkezabera cannot attend the trial. For the spiritual processing of the personal drama it is of great importance for the victims to bear witness. Though some of them wonder what's the point of holding the trial in the absence of those held responsible for this miserable history.
