Blind Fortuin plot
In every Spanish town, fortune seekers buy their lottery tickets from blind vendors who sell them in small booths on street corners. The sellers work for the Spanish National Organization for the Blind (ONCE), which provides employment and education for the blind. This film delves into the world of blind salespeople in Malaga. Some have always been blind, others could once see but lost their sight due to accident or illness. We also meet people who are well on their way to becoming blind. What will your world look like if you can only see twenty percent with one eye? And can a blind man 'see' dark? How does someone who has lost their sight remember a sunset? The protagonists speak honestly and thoughtfully about their lives and how they imagine the environment. The camera follows them during their daily activities and registers how other senses take charge during walking, cooking and contact with other people. We also see the world from the point of view of the visually impaired; what is left of your visual experience? At the same time, the film takes a look at stories of winners and losers of the lottery for the blind; does money make you happy – or is being pleasantly rich an illusion?
