Belgrade - Bar plot
The railway between the Serbian capital Belgrade and the Montenegrin coastal town of Bar was opened in 1974, when Serbia and Montenegro were still provinces of the same country, the old Yugoslavia. Three wars of secession later, these two areas form Little Yugoslavia, which, under pressure from a Montenegrin independence movement, has since been transformed into a loose Union of Serbia and Montenegro. The 456-kilometer-long railway, with more than 250 tunnels, looks like a last piece of string that keeps the two areas together. Born in Sarajevo, but working in the Netherlands, director Vuk Janic traveled on the train from Belgrade to Bar for this rail movie and spoke to some travelers...
