Balomania plot

In the heart of Brazil’s favelas, filmmaker Sissel Morell Dargis gains unprecedented access to the hidden world of the “balloon mafia.” For the baloeiros of Rio and São Paulo, building, launching and chasing hot air balloons has been a cherished and competitive art form—and an essential part of their sense of community and cultural heritage since colonial times. Now, authorities have declared their art illegal, placing it on a par with the drug cartels. This forces the baloeiros underground.
