Menno Sypkens Smit has been living and working in Diatock in southern Senegal for 20 years. He regularly returns to the Netherlands and then stays with his parents in Hattem. His parents' expectations were not met. But his intense commitment to Diatock has evoked a lot of respect in both Senegal and the Netherlands. Menno is at home in the small isolated community of Diatock. He fell in love with Touty, a girl from the village and married her in 1992.
