Surprisingly fun film, in which you find yourself in a colorful town, in which one strange character after the other is reviewed. This role is tailor-made for Cusack, but especially Spacey once again steals the show. What good roles can that man put down, where you as a viewer just have to guess what really goes on inside him or what really happened. I was a bit apprehensive about the long running time, but this film actually only gets more fun as it progresses.
I don't really think it's drama, but more of a black comedy. Had to laugh a few times. Strong ending that will leave you satisfied with the end credits.

Excellent film in which a writer is invited to a Christmas party to report on it. An entertaining courtroom drama with quite a few side plots, but which fit well within the whole. The whole community with quite a few eccentric characters is well portrayed. Two best roles are credited to Kevin Spacey and Lady Chablis (for whom this was her only role).

Entertaining film, but you have to be in it with the right mindset. In that respect, it reminded me a lot of the book itself, although it's been a while since I'd read it. Yes, it's about a murder case and whether or not Jim Williams is guilty of murder or whether it was self-defense; but that's all trivial. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil mainly uses that whole fact to sketch the unusual, old-fashioned but also bon vivante Savannah and especially the many eccentric figures that walk around there. And both the book and the film do this very extensively, at a slow pace which also seems to fit with the Savannah where time seems to have stood still. It also felt too slow for me at times, and those two-and-a-half hours, I don't know if that was necessary at all. But in the end it was quite entertaining monkey watching and sitting back enjoying the Southern realms.
