Very good crime film, but I don't really see the masterpiece in it that many seem to see in it. I think it would have been different in the hands of Jean Pierre Melville. The score is of course very strong, but is too often repeated. Nevertheless, a strong crime film.

3.5*

Wonderful film adaptation of the book by Auguste Le Breton (Rififi), a master of crime novels. Sublime acting by the golden trio Jean Gabin (you recognize that voice out of thousands), Lino Ventura and Alain Delon and a beautiful soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.

Timeless entertainment.

A topper in its genre and in its time, in other words a formidable box-office success at the time, not strange in the presence of three very popular French stars.

The ending disappoints a bit, but as a whole it remains a fine film adaptation of a fascinating work.
