Meh.

The typical standard of Netflix movies. Work It doesn't surpass the average level anywhere and gets stuck with the usual Netflix fare. I keep saying it, I find it a shame that these kinds of productions never really seem to strive for a better result.

Naturally, securing Carpenter as the lead generates high viewership. It is not an undeserved status, as she is a skilled actress. I haven't heard any bad dialogue come from her mouth. Co-stars Koshy and Fisher are certainly worth mentioning as well.

Director Terruso, however, adds little to the film, or so it seems. The film's structure appears to skip a lot of things, making it all look a bit sloppy. There are practically no introductions, and the character relationships and build-up are not introduced either, but are worked out sloppily.

In terms of dance, it is nothing groundbreaking, but the dancing is energetic and looks nice enough to watch. The movements are fun, the music is present enough, and the choreography is just barely adequate. It doesn't come close to someone like Gaspar Noé, but it meets the standard.

Naturally, a lot of clichés make an appearance here, but fortunately, the film doesn't dwell on them too much. Moreover, as a whole, it is quite lighthearted and fast-paced. The running time of 93 minutes is also manageable. However, it is also a bit rushed and sloppily put together. All in all, just enough for a 2.5* for the lighthearted and fast-paced entertainment.

The problem with this type of dance film is that they all look alike. It is, as it were, an accumulation of clichés. A motley crew that ultimately emerges as the winner is anything but original. However, the enthusiasm of the youthful cast ensures that the film still just barely scores a passing grade.

A misunderstanding during an admissions interview at her dream university forces Quinn [Sabrina Carpenter] to prove herself as a dancer to Ms. Ramirez [Michelle Buteau]. Problem 1: she can't dance at all. Problem 2: following a technical blunder as a lighting technician, she has been banned by the dance group representing her school in the dance competition in question. No problem: with the help of her best friend [Liza Koshy], she gathers her own dance crew, and an attractive dance instructor [Jordan Fisher] will teach her how to dance. Superficial, formulaic, and a ridiculous vehicle for pop star Carpenter, without a shred of originality.
