"HOT AS A SMOKING GAT!"

Wealthy New York art collector Andrew Latimer takes a 10-day vacation in California with his wife and two children. Latimer leaves the management of his large house to loyal butler Charles DuMont. Charles plans to spend his vacation in and around the Latimers' mansion and is driven around by the driver George. When Charles dines in the expensive restaurant 'Club Bergerac' he meets the attractive Louise Bradford and her boring fiancée Archer Ripley. Since then, Charles has been trying to stay close to Louise. While visiting the opera, Charles sees Louise with her father and sister Cynthia. Much to Louise's dismay, Cynthia leaves the opera early with gambler Nate Romano, who has close ties to sneaky gambling palace owner Larry Lundie, to whom she owes $130,000. To impress Louise, Charles writes a check for this amount. Since the checkbook belongs to the Latimers, Charles must make every effort to recover the amount before the Latimers return from vacation.
