Directing trio François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell demonstrated enormous potential a few years ago by delivering strong projects, but Wake Up signals that few studios are willing to allocate more budgets to their ideas. This time, it's a smaller, simpler project in which a group of activists are hunted down by a rogue security guard. Visually, the filmmakers are creative with color and come up with some humorous ideas, but a significant portion is framed by tame chopping, drawn-out drama, and a well-behaved narrative. The pace is generally good, but the lack of surprise and courage creates a few dead ends.
