Verlengd Weekend plot

"Two ex-factory workers hijack their former manager in his own luxurious villa in an effort to force him to pay damages. When the manager's mistress shows up, things start to get out of hand."

This social tragicomedy tells the story of two dismissed employees of a small family business in Kempen (Jan Decleir and Wouter Hendrickx) who take their ex-employer (Koen De Bouw) hostage in his own house. The duo has conceived a plan to enforce compensation for themselves and their injured workmates. But nothing goes as planned.

Pleasant crime comedy with excellent acting and fun, sometimes very witty dialogues.

When the phone rings again: "Did you have another daughter?"

The light-hearted story is not always likely, but that doesn't really matter. One of the better Flemish films, which never bores.

Comic crime was definitely the first thing that came to mind when I was just watching the movie.

Extended Weekend may not have a very original story, but the actors portray their characters humanely and thus create a special atmosphere.

The ending of the film was too much american for me personally and felt a bit cliché, too bad they didn't think more about a more appropriate ending.

Extended Weekend is very pleasant to watch because of the atmosphere, it contains some clichés that could easily have been left out, but apart from that again a nice Belgian film

3.5*

Extended weekend was a pleasant review. For me personally one of the nicest Flemish films I've seen in recent years. Not world class, but just entertaining. A film that you should not take 100% seriously and under that premise you will come a long way.

Extended weekend is not pure comedy, but here and there some nice humorous moments are included. This goes from witty answers, to clumsy behavior or absurd moments without really shooting into a roar. It is the charm of the film to create some lightness within the drama and violence aspect. And this works very nicely.

Although they already had some experience with TV series in particular, Veerle Baetens and Wouter Hendrickx were not yet well known to the general public. Both did well, just like Jan Decleir and Koen De Bouw, without really playing memorable roles. The film also makes you think about current social disasters at the time, such as the layoffs at Genk, Renault or the mining industry, in which many people also lost their jobs and the despair that sometimes accompanied this.

In any case, a very nice film, towards the end a bit simple and cheap filled with clichés, but that didn't spoil the fun for a nice movie night. Decent 3.0*!
