Un P'tit Truc en Plus (2024)

After an armed bank robbery, Paul [Artus] and his father [Clovis Cornillac] manage to escape because Alice [Alice Belaïdi] mistakes them for Sylvain (a young man with a mental disability) and his supervisor. As a result, they are allowed to take their loot on the annual holiday trip. Equally ridiculous and predictable comedy maintains the cliché of the cheerful, funny mentally handicapped person and suggests that you can get away with crimes, as long as they like you. Marie Colin gets the necessary blows and Ludovic only spouts foul language. Shocking and sentimental, but Balaïdi and Céline Groussard (as one of the other supervisors) nevertheless manage to portray sympathetic characters. The best moments are the two scenes with the real Sylvain. Dedicated to everyone “with that little bit extra” and their supervisors. And so Artus washes his hands in innocence.

This is another real French comedy, where the humor just goes against or over the edge. However, if you are familiar with French culture, then you know that the jokes are just a bit harder and flatter than in the current Netherlands. I found it all in all very funny, for example the dinner.. moussaka, lasagne blanquette, brilliant. Also the roles played by the "down" people were heartwarming, circle around someone who is sad and without shame say what you think. The contradiction with Artus and Cornillac works perfectly certainly in the band that gets closer and closer to the group and they put their egos more and more aside, so that contradiction disappears. The real Sylvain takes an unexpected completely different vacation, but is accepted into the group just like Artus and Cornillac. And that is perhaps the best thing about the film. We are all people, one gifted differently than the other and that goes well together when the understanding arises. Belaïdi, Groussard and Riso perfectly cast.
