Stefuc lives in a Slovenian village during the Italian occupation. He has four children from two women who are both deceased. In order to find a new mother for his children, he wants to marry Zana, who is engaged to Ludvik. Stefuc tries to put a stop to that, but does not know that Zana is already pregnant with Ludvik.
