The Mask is a bit too cartoonish, but without ever being really funny. Those crazy computer-animated jaws that The Mask pulls or those swinging movements fit within the atmosphere of the film, but really can't do it anymore. Now, if you think of it as a kids movie, it's just entertaining for an hour and a half. Jim Carrey is on a roll. What a year that man had in 1994; Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura and this one; Talk about a (deserved) breakthrough. He is crazy and caricatured (actually even a bit before his metamorphosis, there is hardly a timid man), but that is exactly what he should be. The stunningly gorgeous Cameron Diaz brightened up the film in each of her scenes. But the star of the film is, of course, Milo the dog.

It's not one of Carrey's best roles/movies, but it doesn't reach a bad level anywhere, and is overall nice to watch.

After years of revision, and I couldn't remember anything about it – when someone told me this was Cameron Diaz's debut film I couldn't even remember that. Of course I paid extra attention to her during this viewing, but if I hadn't known it was her I probably would have thought: "Wow, that beautiful woman looks a lot like Cameron Diaz", because when you see how natural her face looks here looks like she must have had some things done. Jim Carrey is just as extremely energetic here as in the first Ace Ventura and carries the film with ease, but the most striking thing is that the FX, which is 27 years old now, still look so good. I read here that some users think they have not stood the test of time, but the cartoon appearance of Stanley Ipkiss' alter ego still convinces me completely, and I can fully imagine that this was a sensation in 1994 (and along with Ace Ventura: pet detective marked Jim Carrey's breakthrough). Excellent entertainment.
