This mediocre teen drama does create a nice 50s vibe, but that's about it.

We follow the daily activities of a gang of “greasers” during their high school years, but the story really goes nowhere.

It is as if something is simply being observed.

A few random events are depicted and the film ends rather abruptly without completing the story at all.

The acting is just about passable, although the lead actors look 10 years too old.

*1/2-*****

Perry King, Paul Mace, Henry "The Fonz" Winkler and Sylvester Stallone (in his first leading role) are friends who have united under the name "Lords of the Flatbush", a kind of gang, so to speak. Stallone is the one with the most talk, but he is also the one who first faces an adult dilemma when his girlfriend Frannie [Maria Smith] becomes pregnant. He would prefer to continue dreaming of a golden future with his friends, but despite his macho attitude, his sense of responsibility begins to gnaw at him.

A simple story that doesn't really have many surprises, but directors Martin Davidson and Stephen Verona - who wrote the screenplay together with Gayle Gleckler - manage to create a striking image of the atmosphere and the mores of young people in the '50s, helped by a pleasant and original soundtrack. Good to sit through and a must for fans of Stallone!

Low budget coming-of-age film in which Stallone got a leading role for the first time. Doesn't have much of a story and is more of a portrait of the generation of young people who were born during the war and were eighteen in the late 50s. For the young people among us this will come across more as a documentary.

They were the first to break with the conservative church upbringing. Resistance to authority, experimenting with sex, following more modern ideas, incomprehension of female feelings, characterized the youth of that time. The Lords of Flatbush think they are already men, but in fact they are still very immature and have yet to learn everything about life. For example, Stallone's character no longer knows what to do with his feelings when his girlfriend announces that she is pregnant. He also does not want to take on fatherhood. And Chico only wants sex with his girlfriend while she first wants a strong foundation for their relationship, which Chico does not understand. Yet they were the generation that often married before or around the age of twenty.

It's not really a good film (downright ugly filmed) but I think most of the stars are very low. Apart from the fact that this is Stallone's debut (we'll just forget his soft porn for a moment), the film still gives a decent moral sketch of the immature but also romantic youngsters of that time. Other similar films: The American Graffiti, The Warriors,
