Laurel Ayres is an ambitious woman who wants to be successful on Wall Street, but is not taken seriously because she is a woman. So she decides to start a company with the fictional partner by the name of Robert Cutty to give the impression that there is a male director after all. However, the employees are suspicious when they never see Cutty appear.

A somewhat laborious comedy, which has to rely more on the acting performances than on the quality of the story. But Whoopi Goldberg, the old Eli Wallach and especially Dianne Wiest make the whole thing somewhat bearable with their fine acting.
