Problemista plot
Born in El Salvador, aspiring toy designer Alejandro struggles to find support in New York to develop his unusual ideas. As his work permit comes to an end, he gets the chance to assist an eccentric artist. It is on this job that he places his last hope to make his American dream come true.

Salvadoran Alejandro Martinez [Julio Torres] goes to the US in the hope of getting a job as a toy designer at Hasbro. His application fails, partly because of his insecure attitude, partly because he cannot get a work visa without a sponsor. That is why he is forced to do all kinds of odd jobs and so he comes into contact with Elizabeth [Tilda Swinton], the eccentric and narcissistic wife of Bobby Asenscio [RZA], an ambitious artist who long ago had himself frozen in the hope that his works of art ( paintings of eggs) will later become valuable and that he can reap the benefits. Despite being polar opposites in personality, Alejandro and Elizabeth decide to join forces to exhibit Bobby's work. Directorial debut by comedian and former SNL writer Torres shows a rich imagination, but the screenplay hangs together like loose sand and there is hardly any personal development. Torres falls short as a director due to the excessive use of a voice-over (by Isabella Rossellini) and the exaggerated acting of Swinton, which really got on my nerves. Scores high in originality and fantasy, but low in entertainment.
