A group of young Los Angeles students travel to Palm Springs for a long weekend. Student Jim falls in love with Bunny, who turns out to be the daughter of stressed-out Palm Springs police officer Dixon. Jim's roommate Biff tries to hook up with the haughty Amanda. Students Connie Stevens, Jack Weston, Ty 'Stretch' Hardin and Jerry Van Dyke form the 'Modern Folk Quartet' and perform at the local casino. Rich college student Eric Dean constantly disrupts the love affairs of his fellow students, including Gayle Lewis, the eldest of the group, but she is in love with Texan Stretch. Campbell, Jim and Biff's basketball coach, wants a date with Naomi, the owner of the motel where the students are staying.
