Shaun Brumder is in senior year of high school. One day, he discovers that life is more than surfing and sunbathing in California's Orange County. A friend's surfing accident prompts Shaun to rethink his life. When he reads the book 'Straight Jacket' by Marcus Skinner, he suddenly realizes what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He also wants to become a writer. Stanford University seems to him to be the ideal place to further develop his writing talent. But will he be admitted to the prestigious temple of study? Can he get a spot at Stanford?

Orange County is such a quintessential American high-school movie. These films often contain little story and rely on humor. This film is no different.
Colin Hanks looks a lot like his father on the outside, but I can't call him an acting and comedic talent. He does a decent job, but not more than that. The fact that this film is still quite funny at times is entirely thanks to Jack Black who plays a very nice role as Hanks' brother. There are also a few nice bit parts for Ben Stiller and Chevy Chase, among others.
It's the perfect example of a jovial, light-hearted film, which never gets special, but somehow looks pleasantly away, so that the time eventually flies by.

Quite fun. Orange County doesn't reinvent the wheel and the acting isn't too strong either, but as a light-hearted snack with a summery atmosphere, nice cameos (Kevin Kline, Ben Stiller) and some funny moments (everything with Jack Black) it does the trick. Actors like Hanks, Fisk, Black, Lithgow and Tomlin do well and the sentimental ending tasted good this time around.
