“Open your eyes, she's eleven years old! Her only friend in the world is dead.”

Sympathetic coming of age film. This film is worth watching for the fantastic acting of the young Anna Chlumsky alone. But Aykroyd, Curtis and Culkin are also very strong. Death is a difficult concept for an 11-year-old to grasp and My Girl makes an interesting film about it. Vada's father has a funeral business (from home) and her best friend Thomas eventually dies. It's nice to see how Vada handles this and how you see her growing up before your very eyes. Very strongly done.

I occasionally looked up (from behind my laptop) and I don't really understand why MAX broadcasts a youth film so late, or that the broadcaster broadcasts a film so late at all, but okay.

The well-known faces of Aykroyd, Curtis and to a lesser extent Masur and Dunne, the sympathetic child actors Culkin and Chlumsky, the equally sympathetic, but no less American sentimental story, it is all nice and nice, but it is more something for Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

I had never seen it before and for sentimental reasons I go for a decent six.

Quite a beautiful film about an eleven-year-old girl and her boyfriend and the things they go through and how they experience it. And that against the background of a father who gets to know a new woman. The fact that the father is a funeral director is also a nice extra addition to the story. And there are even more fun sidelines in the film. So basically it is even a very nice film that should get a very high rating. Unfortunately, the story only takes too dramatic a turn that goes too far and isn't necessary. I've written it before, but this film is yet another example of how Americans manage to ruin something beautiful with their weird ideas of what a good film should look like. Here too, in the end, it is all over the top in the American way. And the acting is pretty good too. But yes, that will all be negated in the end.
