Well-known lawyer Richard 'Dickie' Smith is married to Madeline Mantel but also has a rather surprising reputation as a 'ladykiller'. Felix Zero is an impressionist who works in a nightclub under the name The Great Zero. He wants Richard's permission to parody him in his performance. Richard tells Felix he will only approve if he can convince his live-in and meddling mother-in-law Mrs. Mantel that he is actually Richard. While Felix pranks Mrs. Mantel by posing as Richard, the real Richard advises blonde Diane O'Dare, one of his clients he is in love with, that she file divorce papers against her husband. However, he does not know that Diane is Felix's wife. Complications are inevitable.
