Nice movie. Very recognizable - as if you are on holiday and standing next to a group of French people at the campsite. But as far as I'm concerned it could have been a bit sharper, it now looks a bit too much like a long episode of a soap. A very good soap, indeed. Still, the fact that so many weak films are produced in the genre - especially in Hollywood - is not really a reason to be particularly upset about this one. It's a good, beautiful film - but I can't see a masterpiece in it.

The most beautiful scenes are for Jean-Louis. But exactly there the melodrama is just a bit too thick.

Les Petits Mouchoirs

Splendid. The way director Canet portrays a group of friends that is slowly falling apart is unparalleled. He has also cast actors who have a nice chemistry and who manage to portray their characters in a natural and realistic way. This is a group of friends that seem very close, but the secrets and superficial conversations speak volumes.

Due to a serious accident of one of them, everything comes to an exploding climax during a holiday together. This sounds very heavy, but Les Petits Mouchoirs also has a lot of humor and light-hearted / farcical scenes. Cluzet as touchy and frustrated Max is a joy to watch, and Cotillard also provides some beautiful moments with her calm and impressive acting. The scene in which Eric (Lellouche) is sitting on the windowsill looking at his (ex) girlfriend is also welcome. The ending is way over the top in terms of sentiment, drama and farcicality, but at that moment I totally went with it and I was watching this group of friends (which has also become a bit of your friend group) with goosebumps on my arms.

Today I saw him again and I think I might have been in a better mood today than last time. Not much to add to my previous story. Beautifully acted and beautifully constructed as you gradually get to know more and more about the group of friends with all its whims. Only the very last scene is just a bit too much over the top. That was the only thing that bothered me too much now. The playing time of 2.5 hours was no longer a problem this time. And then maybe it makes a difference that I had already seen him once.
