La Vita È Bella plot

"An unforgettable fable that proves love, family and imagination conquer all."

During World War II, an Italian man (Roberto Benigni), his wife and son are taken to a German labour camp. To spare the child the prospect of certain death, he presents the journey as a game in which you can win prizes. The man firmly believes he can save his son's sanity and is determined to continue acting even after they arrive at the camp.

Beautiful movie! Deserved an Oscar won! It's wonderful how he sees his life and how he later lets his child believe it. Too bad there were no subtitles.

Buon giorno, principlesa!

Great comedy with lots of strong moments. Often heavily over-the-top, but that fits nicely with that busy guy, Roberto Benigni. Perhaps strange to use a concentration camp as a setting in the second part, but the scene in which he supposedly translates the German camp guard is hilarious. As already described in a few other posts, the second part is actually not about the concentration camp at all, but about the father's love for his son. And then also in that beautiful Italian!

Bought at a flea market for 0.50 cents. unbelievable. Such a beautiful movie. My partner had never seen this movie, so watched it together. Again you have to get used to the exaggerated humor and slapstick-like antics. But when you poke through that and when it gets more serious, you really get to see a classic. What a beautiful, funny, sensitive film. The kid is really sweet and plays great.

Really recommended. And I still get the shivers that we all allowed such a war to happen. Hopefully this won't happen again. What a horrible time it must have been in those camps! Horribly inhumane.
