"Kitten, please."

When Rell's beloved cat Keanu is kidnapped, the hopeless duo must pose as a bunch of ruthless killers to infiltrate a street gang and get the cat back. However, the adorable kitten becomes so coveted that the battle for his "guardianship" turns into a gang war, forcing the two unwitting heroes to take matters into their own hands.

I really liked it. The humor is not for everyone. But anyone who knows and liked the Key & Peele episode will also find this hilarious. Those George Michael references, LOL!

When cousins Rell [Jordan Peele] and Clarence [Keegan-Michael Key] come across an ultra-cute kitten, they decide to give it a home and name it Keanu. Unfortunately, Keanu is the favorite pet of a dangerous gangster. When they steal Keanu, Rell and Clarence decide to save their kitten, even if they have to survive in a gangster environment that they only know from movies. Peele and Key have excellent comedic timing and this crime comedy contains plenty of entertaining moments. Peel and Key's attempts to pose as tough gangstas are often hilarious, but it's one of the jokes they milk to the bone - the same goes for the running gag about George Michael.

Director Peter Atencio is mainly an interpreter for Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who both more or less do their own thing here. The jokes and antics happen to have a crime background, but it doesn't add much. It is that Peele in particular has quite a comic appearance, otherwise not a single joke would have been delivered effectively. The humor is mainly the usual comedy through hustle and bustle, with of course some references to weed and sex to tick off the American bingo card in its entirety. As a viewer you have to be able to swallow it to some extent, otherwise Keanu will soon be a long time for you. It's nice that every now and then an action scene comes along to move the somewhat unbalanced pace forward, but in the end Keanu mainly left me cold. I expected a little more from Peele's writing, but perhaps only his horror outings will appeal to me.
