Wow, very underrated movie. Idiocracy aims for the cult factor and (admittedly) only half succeeds. The idea that in 500 years' time the world will have become a complete idiot and that an average Joe and a whore from the year 2005 will have to cope with that is pretty cool. The humor is also good in the beginning. Unfortunately, halfway through the film, the film breaks down and the ridiculous situations seem to have less and less effect. Anyway, the premise is original and fans of oddball movies should definitely check out Idiocracy.

The problem is people see this as comedy. In fact it is pure horror. A dystopia. We are presented with a truly terrifying future. And we know that it is mainly the cerebral minus varieties that keep growing. After all, the oldest movement in the world requires little intelligence.

There is also a group that has to laugh at the richly served shit and piss jokes. But those who don't find them funny aren't necessarily the wrong audience. That sees how clumsy people have become.

The film may be tasteless and look ugly, but this is exactly the specter that one wants to present about the future. Passed as a dystopian satire.

An idiotic film about an idiotic society. When I look at what has been happening on the left and right of our planet in recent years and especially recently (Brazil, US, China), this horrifying picture of the future may well be less hypothetical than we now think possible. Good that we can at least laugh about it now. Or is that also a sign of stupidity?
