Hero plot
"We're all heroes if you catch us at the right moment. Even Bernie Laplante."
Bernie LaPlante is a petty thief. One evening, he sees a passenger plane crash and risks his own life to save its occupants from the burning wreckage. Wanting to remain as inconspicuous as possible, he flees as quickly as possible after his heroic deed. He unintentionally leaves one of his shoes behind. On his way back to town, he gets a lift from John Bubber to whom he hands the other shoe. TV journalist Gale Gayley, who was also on the plane, sees an interesting challenge in the search for the unknown rescuer. A call is made to the owner of the shoe in question. The poor man Bubber hears this, reports himself as the savior and becomes a national hero and millionaire overnight.

Good film in which a man rescues a number of people from a crashed plane. Despite some unbelievable moments, it is still a fun and fairly original story. The tone is also somewhat unbalanced, which means that the mix between comedy and drama does not always work well. But the film is certainly fun to watch and has a nice cast. A small 3.5 stars.

This satire of heroism and media manipulation is populated with implausible characters led by LaPlante. The distance between the petty criminal and the loving father seemed a little too great to me. Hoffman plays a cynical pickpocket who you can't believe is a hero who saved a lot of people from a plane crash. A homeless person, Bubber, to whom he told his story, is going to take the credit from the press. It all seemed a bit crowded and unbalanced.
