Martin and Karla Seewald buy a half-finished house and move with their children Mats and Finja to the countryside. However, their house turns out to be a bigger shack than expected. In addition, the construction workers work against him, Mats encounters difficulties at school and contact with the neighbors is anything but smooth. When things get to be too much for Karla and Martin and everything seems to be coming to nothing, unexpected help arrives.
