Schorsch Kempter is a horticulturist in a small Bavarian town. He works daily in his nursery, which is facing bankruptcy. He doesn't like to talk much, he never did. His marriage has long lost its magic, and on top of that, he struggles to connect with his daughter. Only when he flies in his own rickety biplane does Schorsch really feel free. Just when his plane is about to be impounded, he grabs the controls and flies off in an attempt to save his plane and himself. He embarks on a journey into the unknown, to places he has never seen before, full of strange and special encounters. With each takeoff and landing, the tough man's heart slowly warms up to what you might call happiness.
