Game Night plot

"This is not a game."

Max and Annie are a couple who get together weekly with two other couples for a game night. The bar is raised for their final meeting when Max's charismatic brother Brooks organizes a murder mystery party, complete with fake villains and FBI agents. So when Brooks is kidnapped, it's part of the game... right? But when the six super-competitive players are determined to solve the case and win, they discover that neither this "game," nor Brooks, is what it seems. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves in deeper and deeper trouble.

It still amazes me that films that I sometimes enjoy so much are rated so low here.

The movie is funny, very funny. Then I read above that people think that the makers can't choose between comedy or something else? Well, take those glasses off then. It's clearly comedy.

Bateman and McAdams are a nice couple, with a lot of chemistry between them (would have liked to see more of the competitive MS in the beginning). The other two couples are also very funny. The couple with the celebs issues has a nice climax and the other couple with the stupid and the smart Irish also work very well together.

The situations always cause a lot of laughter now and then, which was also noticeable in the cinema. Everyone broke down regularly.

The highlight of this film is Jesse Plemons as the incredibly creepy neighbor Gary. Very hilarious and almost Oscar worthy! Also disagree with a comment above that he is too little in it. There is such a thing as dosing. His role is useful and is there exactly when it needs to be.

Of course few surprising moments in terms of plot, but who cares?

Just fine, simple and above all funny entertainment with situations that are very over the top and with nice characters, where the entire cast just feels useful.

As a comedy, Game Night is extremely successful. A comedy that is really funny, well constructed and thought through. It's possible. Not that this is a masterpiece, but within the genre one of the better things I've seen in recent years. The setting is also just nice to have fun quizzing with some friends. When a few film questions are included in the bargain, it's a lot of fun.

The plot is also more than solidly put together and is based on - how could it be otherwise - major misunderstandings. The friends then find themselves on a hilarious rollercoaster. The film also has a number of pleasant twists and the actors were also well matched. McAdams in particular stood out, but the cop (Jesse Plemons) was the pinnacle. Great character, if not a bit caricatured.

The funny moments were occasionally a bit absurd, but also very successful, such as the guessing of that one guy about his wife's slip. In the conversations about the bullet wound scene you can see that Bateman and McAdams are good in their roles and their performance in the bar was top notch. Unbelievable and predictable, but oh so finely processed in a smooth film that doesn't bore for a second. Nice action scenes too, such as the wild car races. In short: more than successful!
