Not surprising that the cast mentions "in order of appearance" because Woody throws some (equivalent) characters against it this time, real or fictional.

It is clear that the film - and that is usually the case with Woody Allen - relies on one-liners, funny retorts and absurd reasoning, resulting from equally absurd situations.

It often works but not across the board, so no great Allen here. By the way, you have to be quite familiar with Woody to continue to appreciate the confused stuff to the end.

What is always appreciated by this filmmaker are the evergreen songs (Porter, Gershwin...) that are neatly inserted. Here's the Rodgers and Hart apt "I could write a Book".

Good film in which a writer often uses the people around him as material to write about. Rather fragmentary in design, but the scenes are entertaining and often have nice dialogues. Best scenes are the out of focus actor and hell. Well edited here and there with regard to fiction and reality. Also a cast with quite a few well-known names. A small 3.5 stars.

Woody Allen.

The most striking thing about Deconstructing Harry is that despite all the narrative frivolities, creative ideas, haziness and deliberate mixing of dream and reality, it is still just a typical Allen film. His well-known character and typical dialogues just overshadow everything.

So it comes down to how much you like Allen herself. I can have it, but I'm not a huge fan. His films are often entertaining, especially when he takes the lead himself, but it also lacks some things to really make me a fan. Some visual freshness and some tranquility. Or in the inability to calm down, some extra madness.

Deconstructing Harry is a nice movie, that doesn't drag on too long, but mainly revolves around Allen. Despite all the well-known supporting roles, all the nice extras and creative writing, they unfortunately do not have any real added value. But occasionally taking a video of Allen is absolutely no punishment.

3.0*
