Cedar Rapids plot
"Today is the first day... of the rest of his weekend."
Tim Lippe (Helms) was always thought to make it. However, he has lived all his life in the boring sleepy town of Brown Valley, Wisconsin, with his former school teacher Macy Vanderhei (Weaver). He tries to sell insurance that protects the dreams of others. But now Tim's quiet life will get a serious boost: For the first time in 34 years, he must travel to a "giant" metropolis - Cedar Rapids, Iowa - where he must save his company on an all-or-nothing insurance convention that will be anything but conventional for him.

Frank Capra is alive! In any case, we seem to find the spirit of his work in Cedar Rapids, at least if we look beyond the swearing, the sex, the drugs and the hookers. Although, that's all very cool too. But the story development, morale and character type are purely Capra. Not that this ever comes anywhere near, say, It's a Wonderful Life, but it is a very nice feel-good film with a healthy screwball content and above all a cast that makes more of it than is actually in it, especially John C. Reilly and Anne Heche. Don't expect a high-quality film, but as Onderhond said, sometimes a sluggish, fun film like Cedar Rapids can't hurt. Now Arteta just has to find the dark, almost desperate undercoat of Capra and maybe it will turn into something real one day.

Pleasant but not a high-quality feel-good movie that relies on the nice cast. Heche and Reilly are especially convincing. Helms still lacks some charisma to be able to carry a film, but the supporting roles are very nice. The movie is fun but won't stay in my memory for long.

Didn't really expect much from it at first, but I have to admit that the film looks nice. The naive just radiates from Lippe and he ends up in Cedar Rapids where he has to get a Diamond award from his boss.
Precisely the 2 people (Joan and Ziegler) he is not allowed to associate with are the people who take him in tow and introduce him to the rough world outside his "church" village.
It's not a real laugh-vulture-roar movie, but one where the corners of my mouth came up several times. Humor with an underlying thought...
