L'Incroyable Histoire du Facteur Cheval plot
Ferdinand is a postman at the end of the nineteenth century. His bag is full of love letters. He dreams of building a temple for his daughter Alice. Despite the hardships, will he still have the time, strength and will to realize his dream of the Ideal Palace, brick by brick? He collects the stones during the thirty-three kilometers of his daily tour of Tersanne. At night he laboriously pushes his wheelbarrow against the hostility of the village and is busy building the monument. After 33 years, he will give birth to the first naive work of art.

If you were a fan of La Gloire de Mon Père (1990) and Le Château de Ma Mère (1990), definitely watch this film, it is worth it and you will enjoy it again

An incredible story, as the title says - although it is also more than a bit of a tragic story. Really happened, naturally, and also told quite neutrally, I believe, although it is a bit of a traditional French case full of nostalgia, tradition and Pagnol-esque romance - and therefore actually more of a formulaic work than something original, in the way of telling . Although the story itself is of course original.
The cast fits in perfectly with veterans like Gamblin and Casta. But they do it really well, it's not easy to get a pin in between. Director Tavernier has also clearly dealt with this task before, although perhaps more as an actor.

Who would believe that, but it is indeed there in Hauterives, le Palais Idéal de Cheval, or in other words the most naive piece of architecture.
Beautiful film based on this true event and how that silent go-getter keeps you captivated.
Jacques Gamblin could not have been a better choice for this remarkable role.
Laetitia Casta also excellently portrays her role as a simple homely woman, concerned about her husband and child.
Cheval was met with disbelief and mild ridicule, but he still put the village nicely on the map.
In the end mainly emotion, but justified and well dosed.
